A classic Greek and Balkan dish made of rich, hearty layers of potato and tomato-based ground beef meat sauce and herbs, topped with a layer of creamy yogurt mixed with eggs and flour, then baked. While the Greek version uses eggplant and béchamel sauce for the top layer, our version is the one we grew up with in Bulgaria. It is a classic dish that every Greek and Bulgarian knows about. Top with plain yogurt prior to serving (optional).
